Two dogs are dead after a fire sparked at a mobile home park in Yuma.

The Yuma Fire Department was called to the Cliffs Trailer Park near 4th Avenue and 24th Street on Monday afternoon.

According to a Yuma fire spokesperson, an apartment home located on the property caught fire and spread to two nearby mobile homes. All three homes suffered serious damage.

It's believed that the blaze started in a room in the apartment and the resident attempted to put out the flames with water, fire officials said. The fire spread quickly to the mobile homes and items in the yards made it difficult for crews to contain the fire.

Four people were in the homes at the time of the incident, but only the two dogs suffered injuries.

The American Red Cross offered assistance, but the residents denied the offer.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Officials are reminding people to make sure that they have working smoke alarms in their homes and clear yards of clutter and combustible material.
