A Wittmann man is facing charges after shooting his brother and hitting him with a hammer.

According to court records, on May 20 46-year-old Robin Scott Ballard and his brother got into a fight in their home. The brother suffered serious injuries to his thigh and head.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said Ballad admitted to intentionally shooting his brother. However, at the hospital, the brother that was hurt would not tell police who hit him.

Instead, he said he was assaulted in the desert by someone he didn't know.

After a serving a search warrant, Ballard reportedly told MCSO that his brother "chest bumped" him during the argument. He reacted and grabbed a hammer and struck him in the face. He then shot him and pistol-whipped him several times.

He was booked into jail on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
