A Phoenix man is lucky to be alive after being shot by his cousin multiple times in the head and face.

Phoenix police report that on July 8 they entered a home near 7th Avenue and Roeser Road where they found 28-year-old Alfonso Moreno in a chair and his cousin on the floor with multiple gunshots to his head and face.

Family members reported to police that they heard five gunshots coming from downstairs. Moreno reportedly told them, "I wanted to hear what the gun sounded like."

Moreno allegedly admitted to shooting the victim who was sleeping on the living room floor. He said he shot him in the head and then, "pulled the trigger five more times, but thought he was firing blanks."

Moreno also reportedly told police that he believed his cousin sexually assaulted his girlfriend, even though he and his girlfriend denied it.

Police report that they found five shell casings in the home and a 9mm handgun in a closet.

Moreno is on felony release on illegal drug charges and is being held without bond for aggravated assault and attempted first-degree murder.
