An Avondale man was arrested after driving his car into a group of people, injuring his ex-girlfriend and her mother, according to police.

Police say the victims' family was a having a barbeque on May 1 at a park near 12th Street and Buckeye Road, when 25-year-old Paul Anthony Castillo arrived and started arguing with family members. He was reportedly upset over a recent break-up with his girlfriend of three years.

Family members reported that Castillo appeared to be intoxicated. Police say he drove around the area for about two hours, before making a U-turn and driving on the wrong side of the road. He then reportedly drove at the group, hitting his ex-girlfriend and her mother.

The mother suffered a broken right femur and facial cuts, while the daughter was struck on her left side.

Castillo left the area and after visiting his sisters, he called police and was arrested.

Castillo is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
