Police Lt. Dan Bartlett in the Salt Lake City suburb of Cottonwood Heights says no charges have yet been filed in the case and Utah detectives are working with Los Angeles Police Department investigators.
Defense attorney Greg Skordas says Masina is cooperating with the investigation.
USC says Masina won't be traveling with the team for the season opener against Alabama due to an unspecified violation of team rules. The school is aware of the investigation.
Masina is a Utah native who was a standout player at Brighton High School. He graduated in 2014.
