If you've driven by Sun Devil Stadium recently, you might think there's still a lot of work to be done. But the chief of the ASU athletics department wants you to know: It will be ready by kickoff.

"When you don't know construction, it really looks like there's no way they can get this done," Rocky Harris said.

It hasn't had a renovation in nearly 30 years, but to give the stadium the $268 million facelift it needs, they had to tear it down to build it back up.

But even with a few hiccups, like a surprise landfill found underground, they're right on schedule.

"(We'll have) brand new west side and north side concourses, restrooms, concessions. Actual seats in the lower bowl rather than the hot benches," Harris said.

They're also getting Wi-Fi, so you have a chance to use your cell phone inside. The field will be installed by the seasoned pros who run the Super Bowl, with sod grown in Eloy and trucked in.

And if you thought the stadium was getting bigger -- well, it's actually getting a little smaller.

"What we want to do is make it so no matter who we're playing, whether we're playing a small school or we're playing Notre Dame, we want to sell it out every game and allow our student-athletes to have that atmosphere," Harris said.

A few projects, like finishing off the club level, will come after the season -- but all the big stuff is promised to be wrapped up.
