With the turn of the calendar from August to September comes the ability of teams to expand their active MLB rosters from 25 players to a possible 40.

As such, the Arizona Diamondbacks acted quickly to add six players to their active roster Saturday. They called up pitchers Silvino Bracho, Matt Koch and Jimmie Sherfy, infielder/outfielder Chris Owings, outfielder Socrates Brito and catcher Chris Stewart from Triple-A Reno.

Bracho, Koch, Sherfy, Owings and Brito have all spent time at the MLB level this season. Koch played in 15 games with 12 starts for the D-backs earlier this season, posting a 5-4 record and a 4.28 ERA. Bracho is 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA in 18 relief appearances. Sherfy allowed one run in four innings pitched. Owings, who has played in parts of six seasons for the D-backs, hit .198 with three home runs in 90 games. Brito has two hits in 17 at-bats.

The D-backs acquired Stewart in a trade with the Atlanta Braves earlier this week. He has a career .230 batting average at the MLB level.

Entering Saturday, the D-backs have a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West division. The D-backs have split the first two games of a four-game series with the Dodgers in L.A. Their next matchup is set for Saturday night.
