Will I miss Todd Graham? Yeah. He did some wonderful things for the ASU football program.

Do I agree with the firing? Yeah, I do.

Don’t get me wrong: Graham’s a quality football coach. No debating that. But the Sun Devils aren’t content with just a quality football program. And frankly, they shouldn’t be.

There’s absolutely no reason why ASU can’t become a CFP contender year in and year out. Have you walked around the Tempe campus? That part practically sells itself. With the upgraded athletic facilities -- again, thanks for your contributions TG, give credit where credit’s due -- ASU should be attracting some of the top recruits in the country. They haven’t been. And the university wants to bring in someone who can do just that: recruit.

They’d also like someone who can keep assistant coaches on staff for longer than a sneeze. It’s been something of a revolving door during the Todd Graham era, and that’s never a good thing.

Again, Todd Graham is a quality football coach. I have no doubt he’ll land on his feet and return to the coaching world very soon. I appreciate what he did in his six years in Tempe. I really do. But as an ASU alum, I completely understand why the program wants to go in a different direction.

Trips to Cactus Bowls and Sun Bowls may be good enough at some universities -- but not here. The Sun Devils and their fans deserve better.
