The 28-year-old Goldschmidt was the starting first baseman on the National League side in each of the last two All-Star Games, but was named as a reserve this year. Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo received the starting nod, as voted by the fans.
Goldschmidt is hitting .290 this season with 15 home runs, 56 RBI and 11 stolen bases. He was the only Diamondback selected to this year's All-Star Game.
Cubs players will comprise the entire starting infield on this year's National League All-Star team. It's just the second time that has happened and the first time since the 1963 Cardinals did it.
