Recovering family memories

Posted

No amount of technology could replace an artist’s touch. Nestled in tempe’s industrial park, Art Recovery Technologies is giving art new life.

“We restore memories,” said Scott Keppel, Owner of Art Recovery Technologies in Tempe, Ariz. “If there’s any damage resulting from fire, flood, simply aging, or vandalism, we recover their artwork.”

Using a cocktail of cleaning chemicals, the team of art technicians cleans old frames with mold and repair paintings, sculptures and other pieces of damaged by fire or flood.

With backgrounds in art, the team or art recovery technicians will even repaint in order to repair.

“I totally feel like an artist every time I come into work,” Damien Saenz, art recovery specialist. “It is a lot of just my personal art knowledge and what I think I can do to just really make this piece shine.”

Although you might not have an Andy Warhol or Rembrandt painting that needs a touch-up, a more practical everyday use is family photos and heirlooms.

“Even the days I’m cleaning a family photo I know that’s gonna go back to somebody and they’re gonna feel great when they see it all recovered,” said Saenz.
