GILBERT – A slice of green heaven in the middle of the desert.

Agritopia is a community lined with trees, restaurants and shops, a community garden, and an urban farm.

Joe Johnston grew up farming this property.

Farm director Katie Critchley said, “He wanted it to be like a modern village, that’s walkable- walk to a restaurant or coffee shop and experience food grown on the farm ion those places.”

All the fruits and vegetables harvested here stay on property and are sold as is or walked over to the local restaurants.

People of the community not only enjoy eating the food, but they also help to harvest it. Most of the farming is done by volunteers.

“We have so many jobs on this farm from pulling weeds to harvesting vegetables, to seeding trays- there’s always something to do here.”

Locals have the opportunity to walk from a coffee shop to a store and enjoy authentic, local products.

“This is for the town of Gilbert as a whole and hopefully a showpiece for what’s possible in Arizona.”
