Chief Jeri Williams on Being the First Female Police Chief in Phoenix

The leader of the police department in the valley of the sun is as humble as they come. “I don’t look at myself as the female Police Chief, I am the Police Chief of Phoenix who just happens to be a woman of color and a female Police Chief”, said Police Chief Jeri Williams.

The native Phoenician can teach a master class on juggling family life and career.

“I could chuckle and cry at the same time, crying because I lost so much time when my kids were younger. There were training opportunities and different job assignments that I probably could have taken care of, but I didn’t want to miss time with my kids”, says Chief Williams.

When Chief Williams is not helping to protect more than a million people, what does she do to unwind? Bake! A couple of months ago she made her husband, Cody a vanilla cream frosting cake and challenged our reporter J Russell to a baking contest. We’ll see who wins when that time comes, but early numbers show that J will have his hands full.
