Board Game Café ‘Snakes & Lattes’ Brings Fun to Tempe

Posted

When you’ve exhausted all your board games at home, move game night to Snakes & Lattes in Tempe, Ariz. where there are more than 900 games to choose from.

Snakes & Lattes is a board game café that started in Toronto, Canada. They recently opened their first location in the United States just off Mill Avenue.

“Snakes & Lattes comes from the board game ‘Snakes and Ladders.’ Here in America we call it ‘Chutes and Ladders,’ but almost everywhere else we call it Snakes and Ladders,” said Mike Goodrick, head game guru at Snakes & Lattes.

Games are labeled by difficulty with green being the easiest, and red being the most difficult to learn.

“Red games are… You’re kind of on your own there. We either don’t have time for it or it’s too difficult for us to take and teach. Like Star Wars Rebellion. It’s like Star Wars in a box,” said Goodrick.

And there are always “game gurus” on staff who explain the rules of the games and help set up before you battle it out.

“Literally their entire job is to teach and recommend games for you,” said Goodrick.

You can keep it nostalgic with classic boards games like Clue and Guess Who or delve deeper into more obscure titles.

“They also have some great nostalgic games and some really crazy ones like this one, Gizmos, that we’ve never heard of and now we’re addicted,”  said Kristina Linden.

“It’s a great place to kind of use as your base,” said Jordan Nothstine.

Oh and let’s not forget the second part of the name. Snakes & Lattes is also a full bar and kitchen for those who drink when they roll.
