Phoenix Rising FC fell to MLS stalwart Sporting KC 3-2 in the first home match at Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex this season, despite finding the back of the net for the first time.

Trialist Lamar Neagle and midfielder Kevon Lambert scored the first goals for the team this season. This preseason match featured two 75-minute matches.

Neagle’s goal came in the 70th minute after First-Team All-League midfielder Solomon Asante flashed his fancy footwork and embarrassed his defender, nutmegging him before lifting a cross to Neagle who finished with a header.

PRFC’s second goal came in the 28th minute of the second match, when one of the newest members of the squad, Joey Calistri, dished the ball with the outside of his foot to set up Kevon Lambert.  Lambert took a touch and knocked it in off the far post for the goal.

Sporting KC started the scoring with Johnny Russell in the 56th minute, U.S. national team player Graham Zusi scored off a free kick in the 72nd minute, and Tyler Freeman scored the final goal in the first minute of the second match.

The team’s next home match is Saturday, Feb. 16 vs Real Salt Lake at 7 p.m.  This is the first of 35 matches to be broadcast on Your Phoenix CW (cable channel 6, or channel 61.1 over the air).
