Whether it is a trip to the grocery store or a summer vacation, it can be a struggle for parents to keep their kids comfortable in the car while sitting in the blazing Arizona sun.

AAA Arizona is offering a variety of tips on a budget because every little bit helps, AAA spokeswoman Michelle Donati said.

1. Bring white towels with you in the vehicle

When you park and get the kids out of the car, drape the white towel over their seat. The white will help deflect some of that light and make it less warm when the child gets back in the car. Donati said most people have a towel around their homes so this is usually a free option for parents.

2. Purchase a car seat cover

If you are able to spend a little bit more money, Donati suggests getting a car seat cover. It works almost exactly like a sunshade for your car and can be purchased on Amazon for about $7.

Donati said, if you are willing to spend more money, there is a product she highly recommends. It is a car seat cooler that you put in the freezer overnight — like an ice pack.

Donati said you lay it out on the child's seat when they get out of the car and it will keep the seat at a much more comfortable temperature without sweating water on the seat. It costs about $40 on Amazon.

3. Park in the shade anytime you can

She also suggests clearing out items in your garage, if you can, and use your garage for actually parking your vehicle. If you can auto-start your car for just a few minutes, that may be another way to cool things down just a bit.
