The La Paz County Sheriff's Department says a man drowned in the Colorado River near Ehrenberg over the weekend.

Officials say on Sunday afternoon, a Hispanic man was swept away by the current while swimming near the I-10 bridge. Witnesses say his friends attempted to save him but were unsuccessful.

Various departments including the Blythe Police Department, Riverside County Sheriff's Department, and Ehrenberg Fire Department attempted to locate and recover the victim throughout the day on Monday.

The sheriff's department reported that the man's body was located about eight miles south of the bridge on Tuesday morning.

The area where he was swimming is reportedly very dangerous and has underwater ravines that cause fast currents.

La Paz County Sheriff's Office says the victim will not be identified until all family has been notified.
