Scottsdale resort to teach you how to be a mermaid

If you've ever thought it would be kind of cool to be a mermaid, a Scottsdale resort is making that happen.

"It definitely takes the whole dream of being a mermaid to a more realistic level," says Desiree Reed, who teaches the Aqua Mermaid Program the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch.

Mermaids as young as 7 years old can learn to kick up their fins and take off in the water.

It looks easy, but this is actually a really good workout.

"When you're swimming normal you're swimming with both of your legs and they can move independently of each other," says Reed. "In a mermaid tail you can’t do that."

The Hyatt Regency provides those whimsical tails — the splashes and the laughs are all up to you.

Classes start on May 20 and run through Labor Day.
