Governor Doug Ducey signed a bill into law today that allows bars and restaurants to legally serve alcohol to patrons with valid out-of-state ID cards.
Before HB2031 was signed, only horizontal licenses were accepted for alcohol purchases. Anyone with a vertical driver's license from Arizona or elsewhere, even if over the legal drinking age, could not legally make a purchase.
Those who accepted vertical cards would face a fine of up to $1,000.
Effective immediately, servers and bartenders can accept identification of anyone of the legal drinking age without a penalty or fine.
The bill is expected to boost local economies and tourism spending.
