The National Weather Service is working to prepare Valley residents as we await our first string of dangerous heat this year.
The organization's HeatRisk map forecasts the heat risk potential for specific parts of the Valley over the upcoming seven days.
The risk is given a number from 0 to 4, as well as a color -- green, yellow, orange, red, or magenta -- as part of a scale similar to the Air Quality or UV indexes.
The scale provides updated information for specific locations, and identifies groups who are most at risk.
