Maricopa County Department of Transportation doesn't take chances when deciding to close a road from flooding.
Why? Because is takes as little as 18 inches to wash a vehicle off the road.
MCDOT has new technology that just began last year in a few spots around the county to alert drivers before they close the road.
There are permanent "do not cross when flooded" signs and when the sensors detect enough water, the flashing lights go off. When this alert begins, the stupid motorist law also goes into effect.
