There are 51 certified international dark sky parks and six of them are located in Arizona. Astro-tourism is an increasing source of money to the state economy.
Deputy Director Stephanie Dowling of the Arizona Office of Tourism says the resorts in the Valley aren't just good places to relax.
"We have some great resorts that offer stargazing programs. From the Four Seasons to Sheridan Wildhorse Pass, they have great star picnics and they have different astronomers that they'll bring onto property," Dowling adds.
Astronomers flock to Arizona from all over the world to get a look at the sky. That's part of the reason Maricopa County has a dark sky ordinance. The goal is to make sure we can observe the night sky in full effect.
