Crystal meth found in car in Navajo County

Posted

Authorities say they have arrested three people in northeastern Arizona for allegedly trying to smuggle crystal methamphetamine in a vehicle.

The Navajo County Sheriff's Office says 59-year-old Jorge Rosas-Camps, 59-year-old Maria Esperanza Heriquez and 19-year-old Naxeli Dolores Henriquez remained jailed Wednesday.

Each is being held on a $500,000 bond for one count each of transportation of a dangerous drug for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a dangerous drug for sale.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Susan Batson says deputies stopped their vehicle Monday on Interstate 40 in Holbrook.

Deputies say all three appeared nervous and had inconsistencies when relaying their travel plans.

Deputies also noticed a chemical odor and searched the vehicle with drug-sniffing canines.

They say they found 33 pounds of crystal meth worth an estimated $1.5 million.
