We are wishing you a very Happy and Healthy New Year! Of course, as your Smart Shopper, I want to help you save in 2021 as well. So, here are some tips!

RETURNING ITEMS:

Since the holiday season has come and gone, many of you will need to make some returns.

Did you shop on Amazon? Well, there are millions of items eligible for free and easy returns, and the deadline was extended to January 31, 2021. You can return items at several locations, including Kohl's. Just bring the item, the QR code after starting the return process, and the drop-off location does the rest. New this year, customers have the option to return at Whole Foods Market locations. This is for no box, no label returns. A spokesperson from Amazon said, "So, customers can simply go in with the item they wish to return after having processed it online. And a helpful associate will box that up for you and process your return." Click here to learn more.

Offers.com also put together a massive roundup of return policies for more than 90 major retailers. Check it out here.

WHAT TO BUY AND AVOID IN JANUARY:

Both NerdWallet and DealNews put together lists of what is best to buy and what you should avoid in January 2021. Here's the gist.

BUY:

Check out the holiday closeout sales. It's a great time to get Christmas items and decorations.

Enjoy savings on winter clothing.

Football fans, listen up! You'll also see TV deals near the end of January to get you ready for The Super Bowl in February.

There will also be "White Sales", where retailers offer great deals on bedding, towels and more.

Let's talk about fitness gear and gym memberships. It's a common resolution to get fit. In this case, I encourage that, but I also want your wallet to GROW a size or two.

Take advantage of the discounts on equipment. Keep in mind, the pandemic took a toll on gyms as whole. So, though there will be discounts for memberships this month, there may be better prices in June.

AVOID:

Wait on mattresses. Those deals will come in February.

Skip video game consoles because prices are normally best in November.

Smartphones are better to purchase between September and November.

Laptops are best to buy during Black Friday and Back-To-School season.

STORES AND RESTAURANTS OPEN ON NEW YEAR'S DAY:

RetailMeNot put together a couple articles. This one is about stores that are open on New Year's Day. This one is specifically about restaurant deals to ring in the new year.

Enjoy! Happy 2021! Let's make it a positive year full of possibilities!
