A woman is hospitalized and a dog is dead after they were struck by a car in Surprise Thursday night.
Police were called to the area of Clearview and Sunrise boulevards after receiving reports of a car accident involving a pedestrian.
Preliminary reports indicate the woman was chasing the dog and the two ran into the roadway in front of the vehicle.
The woman was taken to a nearby trauma center but the dog died, a Phoenix Fire spokeswoman said.
The driver remained at the scene and impairment is not suspected, police said. The driver was not injured and refused treatment.
Roads in the area were closed during the investigation.
