Peoria crew will help fight wildland fire in North Carolina

The Peoria Fire-Medical Department is sending two crew members and a brush truck to answer a nationwide call for assistance for a fire burning in North Carolina.

The crew members departed on their cross-country trip Sunday evening to help fight the Party Rock Fire.

The fire started in Chimney Rock State Park and has burned more than 2,800 acres and is only 15 percent contained.

Peoria Fire-Medical will be joined by crews and apparatus from the Surprise Fire Department and Daisy Mountain Fire Department.

More than 5,000 firefighters from around the country that have answered the call to help with the North Carolina blaze.
