Glendale Police Officer Shaun Hardesty killed in car crash

The Glendale Police Department said Friday that Officer Shaun Hardesty died in a car crash on July 3, 2016.

Hardesty served 15 years with the Glendale Police Department and leaves behind his wife and four kids.

Hardesty also worked with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office for one year before joining the Glendale Police Department.

A release from Glendale police says Hardesty was the recipient of several medals for his service in the community and was given the Chief's Award for rescuing and evacuating a nursing home and rehabilitation center during an active fire. He also helped with numerous community events for at-risk youth and helped run the annual W. Steven Martin Toy Drive.

Hardesty’s funeral is scheduled for Friday July 15, 2016 at Palm Valley Church in Goodyear and is open to the public.
