A simple but costly mistake at a Valley QuikTrip ends up costing drivers big. Company officials say a delivery driver accidentally put diesel fuel into the regular gas storage tank.

"It just stalled," said Darel Strawn.

Strawn says his car broke down almost immediately after getting gas at the QuikTrip near I-10 and Miller Rd. in Buckeye.

In all more than 20 cars were affected by the mistake.

A mistake mechanics say can wreak havoc on cars.

"Real soon it's gonna start sputtering. It's gonna stall. It's gonna be dead in the water," said Desert Car Care Company owner Frank Leutz.

To fix the problem Leutz says mechanics have to drain the gas tank, and may have to replace both the fuel filter and fuel pump.

Two repairs that can cost more $1,500.

"Diesel fuel is more oily so it's really gonna constrict the filter and it will have to be replaced," said Leutz.

QuikTrip company say they are taking steps to make sure the mistake doesn't happen again.

They also say they are paying for repairs, rental cars, and new tanks of gas.
