Tempe police are looking for an armed robbery suspect who robbed a check cashing store on Southern and Mill avenues Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened around 1 p.m.

Police say the man entered the store with a handgun and demanded money. Employees were able to activate the store's alarm and scared off the suspect before handing over any money.

The suspect, described as a man, was wearing a white mask, sunglasses and a hoodie and left the store on foot.

An ABC15 photographer on the scene noticed a police K9 unit was assisting with the search for the suspect.

Police Lt. Mike Pooley said officers were unable to find the suspect in the area immediately around the store.

At least three employees were in the store at the time of the attempted armed robbery, police said. No injuries were reported.
