A man has been taken into custody after climbing on the roof of the old Monti’s restaurant in Tempe.

Tempe police said they were called to Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Drive to get the man off the roof. When officers arrived on the scene the suspect, 23-year-old Joseph Motta, got off the roof and hid on the property.

According to police, Motta was uncooperative with officers and a Taser was used to control the suspect.

After the man was detained, he continued to struggle and kicked a police officer.

Motta was transported to jail and will be charged with trespassing, aggravated assault and drug charges.

The officer did not report any major injuries.
