It was a risky chance jumping into a burning car to save the life of a man trapped inside, but 19 year old Chance Kevwitch did just that.

"I looked to my left and I see a car on fire,” said Kevwitch.

Kevwitch was on the way to a friend’s house when he made a wrong turn. He came upon a fiery scene near the Loop 101 and University.

Kevwitch was deemed the Mystery Man, after he jumped in to help fellow passers-by in the middle of a rescue effort.

"He told me I can't get them out by myself, so I climbed in the car that was on fire and dead lifted him if you will and got my arms underneath him,” explained Kevwitch.

Kevwitch was talking about Jorran Brookman, who was grabbing the driver’s feet and needed help lifting the man out of the car.

Chance and Jorran braved the fireball and saved the man in the nick of time.

"I don't think I could have done it without him,” said Jorran Brookman.

"My instincts just took over, you really don't think about it in situations like that,” explained Kevwitch.

The 19 year old says this isn’t the first time he’s saved a life.

"A couple of years ago, a similar situation. An older woman was just sitting at an intersection, and someone coming down the road at about 60 mph crashed right into her,” said Kevwitch.

The driver in the 101 crash was seriously hurt, but thanks to Chance and Jorran’s actions, he’s alive.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
