Students attending a Tempe college will practice the skills they're learning in the classroom in a mock active-shooting situation.

Brookline College offers several degrees including: Health Care, Business, Paralegal or Criminal Justice and Nursing.

On Thursday morning, staff will hold a mock casualty event so students can practice the skills they've been learning.

Surgical Technology Program Director Alison Wilson says the goal is to make sure the students are ready and prepared. Wilson says every year they learn something different.

"We simulate the entire situation for our students," said Wilson. "This is important for them to learn how to use their skills  from the classroom in a real-life situation."
