One resident in a Tempe duplex was lucky to escape from his home after it caught fire early Tuesday morning.

According to information at the scene near Curry and Miller roads, the fire started around 2 a.m. in the patio area of a duplex unit and jumped to the attic of the home and to another unit next door.

Fire officials say a man living in one of the units safely got out before fire crews arrived and the other unit was unoccupied.

Fortunately for the second duplex, only minor roof damage occurred.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
