DPS: 2,000 rounds of ammo catch fire in truck on Interstate 10 in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ — DPS officials say a pickup truck was carrying approximately 2,000 rounds of ammunition in the bed of the truck when flames erupted.

The fire occurred at around 8:18 p.m. Monday on the eastbound I-10 west of Guadalupe. The rounds of ammunition exploded in the vehicle due to the fire.

The truck was near the right shoulder of the highway when troopers closed the roads while the fire was extinguished.

Officials say no one was injured as a result of this incident.
