The City of Tempe has released a video to answer questions about what will happen to fish as Tempe Town Lake is drained and eventually refilled.

Water is being cleared away to allow for a new dam to be put in on the west end of the lake. The project replaces the current dam’s aging bladder system.

The city is partnering with Arizona Game and Fish to catch samples of every species of fish from the lake and house them in a marina. Once the lake is refilled, the fish will be put back into the water to help repopulate the lake along with regular stocking.

In addition, Game and Fish lifted limits on how many fish were allowed to be caught in 2015, didn't stock trout in the winter and some fish will also be drained into local canals.

The lake is expected to be closed until the end of April.
