Smoke could be seen for miles after a brush fire broke out in Tempe on Wednesday evening.

Air15 video showed heavy white smoke billowing from the area near Baseline and Kyrene roads.

Fire crews were on scene, and the fire was later contained.

“My house might be on fire,” said Rodney Rodriguez Jr.

It was the first thought in his head as he saw the thick plume of smoke on his way home.

“As we get closer and closer, it was bigger than I thought it was going to be,” said Rodriguez Jr.

Firefighters used the Rodriguez’s family fence to prop up their ladder as they got access to the flames and stopped them from spreading.

“They told us, they thought it was going to get close, so they started fighting it right away,” said Rodney Rodriguez Sr.

“It gets scary, because trailers go up in flames really fast,” said Kara Davenport, who lives in the complex.

“I give them a lot of credit, because I know firefighting must be really tough, especially in the Arizona heat,” said Davenport.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
