An Arizona Department of Environmental Quality investigation is underway after a Friday sewage overflow in a San Tan Valley neighborhood.

A resident showed ABC15 a Friday morning video of water bubbling out of a manhole cover in the neighborhood near Ocotillo and Schnepf roads.

"It's just over-the-top ridiculous," community resident Carol Springer said.

This is the second time since March that sewage has flown out of manhole covers in the neighborhood,
residents said.

Johnson Utilities, which runs the sewer system, said in March that the previous incident was caused by a grease back-up.

A Johnson Utilities representative did not return a request for comment Friday afternoon.

Parks around the neighborhood were blocked off with yellow caution tape after the overflow.

A resident filed a complaint with ADEQ Friday morning, an ADEQ spokesperson said.

A state inspector was at the site within an hour, the spokesperson said.

The ADEQ investigation could be completed as soon as next week.
