A Mesa man is behind bars for allegedly conspiring to meet a 16-year-old girl for sex at a hotel.
According to court documents, police allege Michael R. Regan began talking with the teen on a social media website in November before exchanging numbers and continuing their relationship through text messages.
What Regan didn't know is that an undercover detective was actually posing as the 16-year-old.
Police said Regan sent sexually explicit photos to the girl, talked of his intentions to have sex with her, and even told her to keep the relationship a secret "due to the [undercover detective posting as the teenager] age and the laws," according to court records.
Regan agreed to meet the girl on Dec. 29 at The Hilton Hotel near Alma School Road and Holmes Avenue. He arrived and was taken into custody at 5:56 p.m., police said.
He was booked into jail on one count of luring a minor for sexual exploitation and aggressively luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
