Police have arrested a man for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in July.
On August 18, officers stopped 21-year-old Trayvon Van Buren after he walked through a crosswalk against the light. When questioned, police say he identified himself as Takwon Van Buren.
A portable fingerprint scanner gave police his correct identity, and investigators say he admitted to lying in an effort to hide an outstanding warrant.
The warrant is in connection with an incident that happened July 24. Mesa police say Van Buren sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl who had been drinking alcohol and blacked out during parts of the evening.
A friend of Van Buren's told police the victim was "extremely intoxicated," according to court paperwork.
A search of Van Buren at the time of his arrest also found he was carrying an unspecified amount of marijuana, and police say he admitted he was too high to continue talking about the sexual assault.
Van Buren has been booked into the 4th Avenue Jail and faces charges of sexual assault, possession of marijuana and giving a false report to law enforcement.
A judge set his bond at $100,000.
