MESA, AZ — An armed robbery suspect has been detained by police after crashing her car into a canal Tuesday afternoon.
Mesa police say officers were called to Stapley and University drives to investigate an armed robbery call.
When police arrived on scene, the suspects took off and ended up driving their car into a canal just north of Chaparral Road and West of County Club Drive on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
Police say an adult female suspect was detained at the scene. She told police a male suspect got out of the vehicle before crashing into the canal and says no one else was in the vehicle.
Authorities say this is an active investigation. There are no reported injuries at this time.
