A Gilbert man accused of fatally shooting a woman and a teenage boy in his home last year has pleaded not guilty.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 35-year-old Matthew Crain entered his plea at his arraignment Friday.

He's being held on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder and single counts of aggravated assault, burglary and misconduct involving weapons.

Crain allegedly shot 33-year-old Stacey Steward and her daughter's 17-year-old boyfriend Alex Tamborski on Oct. 11, 2015 during a dispute at the home Crain and Steward shared.

Police found the two victims dead at the scene.

They say Steward's daughter escaped and told police Crain was her mother's roommate.

Tamborski was the girl's boyfriend and happened to be visiting.

Crain fled the scene and was shot after he confronted police hours later.
