The Chandler Police Department is taking action to help a little girl in need.

They’re raising money to buy a customized bike for a 12-year-old girl named Leia.

Leia has Down Syndrome and Autism and is non-verbal.

Police learned about the family through the Lions Club and have since teamed up to raise the $3,000 needed so Leia's family doesn’t have to worry about the cost.

“The insurance would not cover the cost of the bike because it’s not considered durable medical equipment. The fundraiser that they’re doing is to purchase her a special bike so that she can ride with her family and strengthen her core," said Lt. Scott Veach, with the Chandler Police Department.

If you’d like to help out, Chandler police will be taking donations at a special event Sunday, Sept. 18 at Snedigar Park in Chandler located at 4500 S. Basha Road where there will be an event for special needs children from 4-6 p.m.
