A Chandler woman was charged with child abuse and two dozen counts of animal abuse, nearly one year after police found her home in shambles.

Court documents say, Chandler police arrested 44-year-old Kathleen Tempel on March 2, 2015, after finding feces throughout the home she shared with her two sons and 26 dogs.

One of Tempel’s sons told police they had to skip meals because they did not have enough food.

The other said he was scared of some of the dogs.

Police described in documents feces throughout the home, including on the couch where the children reportedly slept because they did not have beds.

A dog was noted to have an open wound that was actively bleeding, according to records.

Tempel was charged with two counts of child abuse and 26 counts of animal abuse.
