Phoenix Police: Pedestrian dead after being struck by drag racing car in west Phoenix

A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car in Phoenix early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the area of 47th Avenue and Indian School Road around 1:30 a.m. after receiving reports about the accident.

According to a police spokesperson, two cars were racing westbound on Indian School Road when the driver of a blue Subaru struck a person who was in crossing the street through traffic.

The Subaru sped off from the scene but the second car stopped, officials said.

The person died at the scene and his or her name hasn’t been released. It's unknown if any arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
