A Phoenix man is accused of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend while they were dating.

According to court paperwork, the now 17-year-old victim began dating Leobardo Zamora, 19, last December.

In June, the teen told her parents she was sleeping at a friends house but went to Zamora’s instead, court documents said. While there, the suspect attempted to have sex with the girl but she told him she did not want to.

Despite the girl denying his advances, Zamora allegedly held the girl’s wrists down and proceeded to sexually assault her, court documents said.

Sometime after the alleged rape occurred, the girl called Zamora and told him he forced her to have sex despite her repeatedly telling him no, court paperwork said. The suspect apologized and admitted that he had made a mistake.

The victim told her parents about the incident weeks later and they contacted police, court paperwork said.

When the pair started dating Zamora was 18 years old and the victim was just 16. He told officials he knew her age but the couple engaged in sexual relations anyway.

He is facing sexual assault and sexual conduct with a minor charges.
