Police are searching for a suspect that assaulted an officer in Phoenix.

Authorities say the officer was attacked after he confronted two burglary suspects near 47th Avenue and Earll Drive Thursday morning.

Witnesses say the male officer was kicked several times in the face and chest while capturing a female suspect.

Officers stopped the woman and a man who was with her after seeing them walking down the street with a bicycle and a handful of tools.

Mario Quijas Jr. says the tools belonged to his family.

"You know that never really happens here but unfortunately today was the day," says Mario Quijas Jr.

Quijas Jr. says that at first his family wasn't even that aware some of their belongings had been stolen, but when they checked their backyard after hearing police in the area they realized something was up.

""I honestly felt like I was in a war movie. I kept on hearing the helicopter go around and around. I'd never think it would be our house," said Quijas Jr.

While police were able to detain one suspect, a second suspect escaped.

Officers conducted an extensive search of the area but came up empty.

The suspect police are looking for is described as a light skinned Hispanic man in his 20's.
