A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after admitting to attempting to kill another man in a store parking lot, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Andres Saldana Alcantar, 36, told officers he “was trying to kill the victim” using a chisel he bought at Home Depot immediately before the fight, court documents show.

The incident happened in the Walmart parking lot at Thomas Road and 37th Street.

Alcantar told police the victim was allegedly coming to his apartment saying statements like “I’m coming” in a “child-like voice," which reminded him of his children and made him angry.

Officers received multiple calls from several witnesses, one who followed Alcantar when he left the scene of the incident.

Alcantar had blood on his hands when officers arrested him, and he brought them to the chisel he hid in the bushes by the stabbing scene.

The victim was sent to the Maricopa County Medical Center for treatment of the two stab wounds. Officers said he is expected to survive.

Alcantar has been charged one count of first degree murder.
