A man accused of sexually assaulting and beating his wife also reportedly forced his 6-year-old son to watch the brutal attack, according to court documents.

Police say the attack occurred between 9 p.m. on May 14 and 5 a.m. May 15 in the area of 83rd Avenue and Buckeye in southwest Phoenix.

The victim reported to police that her husband hit her in the face while she was on the bed, then tried to smother her with a pillow. She managed to get off the bed, but he caught her on the floor and continued the assault.

As she screamed, her 6-year-old son came into the room and his father told him to get a pillow. The boy got a pillow from the bed, which the suspect used in an attempt to smother the woman, records state.

The boy later reportedly told police of his father that, "he was trying to make my mom dead." He also said that he wanted to leave and get help, but was told by his father to, "sit and watch."

The victim was later released and went into the bathroom, but the suspect followed her and demanded that she return to the bedroom where he sexually assaulted her. He later fell asleep, allowing the victim time to contact police.

The victim suffered bruising, scratches and severe swelling on her face and neck.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault, sexual assault, kidnapping, and child abuse.
