A passerby is being credited with helping save a woman and her dog from a fire in west Phoenix.

Jose Salinas and his wife were driving by a house near 59th Avenue and Osborn Road early Saturday morning when Salinas saw flames coming from the home.

"We were on our way home, my wife and I, and we just seen the place," Salinas said. "God always has these ways and he puts us wherever he wants us to be."

Salinas told ABC15 that he attempted to wake the homeowner by repeatedly honking his car horn and knocking on the door. The good Samaritan was able to to get the elderly woman outside but her dog remained in the burning home.

Shortly after firefighters were able to safely get the pup out. Both the woman and her pet are OK.
