A man has been arrested for setting his family's west Phoenix home on fire with a 1-year-old child inside.

According to court documents, Quinton Grier went to his family's home near 57th Avenue and Indian School Road on Thursday morning despite multiple requests from the family to leave.

Two relatives reportedly saw Grier pouring lighter fluid around the back of the home just before flames erupted on the patio. The fire extended to the house, causing a total loss.

Court documents stated there were six people inside the house at the time, including a 1-year-old and the wheelchair-bound homeowner, who had to be rescued by fire crews.

Grier was taken into custody near 82nd Avenue and Indian School Road later that morning.

Grier reportedly admitted to starting the fire, and an accelerent detection canine got positive hits for ignitable liquids on the clothes Grier was wearing at the time of his arrest.

The family told police they feared for their safety as Grier had allegedly been saying for several days prior to the fire that he "was going to kill them all in their sleep."

Grier has been charged with arson and endangerment.
