Police were driving near Dunlap and 29th avenues early Wednesday morning when a car in front of them stopped in the middle of the road, Sergeant Jonathan Howard with the Phoenix Police Department said.

According to Howard, when officers approached the man’s car, 27-year-old Steve Ayala when he got out and allegedly punched, hit and attempted to bite them.

The officers called for additional help and the man was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest.
